DAY 8 (page 3 of 4): Saturday, August 16, 2003

2:39 pm
- More waiting...in Hogs Back.

At 3:30 pm, the kayakers passed through their last and final lock of the trip -- Hartwell Lock! In total, the kayakers have passed through about 22 lock stations!

The New RO was waiting for the crew here and did a quick interview with Kevin as he descended down with the water. We also had CJOH-CTV come by and take some shots at Black Rapids. Looks like we might make the news again tonight!

The K4C fleet stopped at Dows Lake, about 4 km from the Ottawa Locks, where some members of the ground crew jumped into kayaks of their own, or joined the passengers on the pontoon boat.

At 4:45 pm, the first kayak could be seen far in the distance rounding the corner towards the Ottawa Locks. They were paddling at full throttle and in no time reached the gates of the top lock where a big crowd had gathered, awaiting their arrival.
