DAY
8 (page 3 of 5): Saturday,
August 17, 2002

4:56 pm - Mitch,
her dad Papa Ron and the Tilley gang lead the
pack into the Ottawa Locks
|
Then, at 4:46 pm, the kayakers
came into sight of the Ottawa Locks. A large crowd
of family, friends and onlookers had gathered
to cheer them on through the final metres of water.
The Tilley gang, with the rest of the team close
behind, led the pack over the finish line and
into the top of the Ottawa Locks -- it was an
exhilerating moment for us all!
As the kayaks and kayakers
were quickly pulled from the water, everyone made
their rounds, congratulating one another on an
amazing trip!
Shortly after that, thanks
to Janet at CCS, we had presentations from Len
Leeks, the Canadian Cancer Society Fundraising
Chair (Ottawa) and Dr. Chaim Birnboim, Senior
Scientist Cancer Research Group at the Ottawa
Regional Cancer Centre.
Kevin said a few words of
thanks to our sponsors,
who've been terrific to us again this year, and
then the CCS presented the whole K4C team with
"You Hold the Cure" caps.
