This map shows our travel route
via
the Rideau
Canal. The Rideau Canal spans 202 km between Kingston
and Ottawa, Ontario.
The Rideau Canal is a chain of lakes,
rivers and canal cuts. It was conceived in the wake
of the War of 1812, and was to be a war-time supply
route to Kingston and the Great Lakes. Completed in
1832, the Rideau Canal was one of the greatest engineering
feats of the 19th century. In 2007 The Rideau Canal was designated as a World Heritage Site.
