DAY 1 (page 5 of 5): Saturday, August 9, 2003

7:04 pm
- The K4C team pulls into Lower Brewers - it's a beautiful sight!

After lunch, the kayakers pushed off at about 3 pm, heading for Lower Brewers Locks, our camping destination for the night. It was close to 7 pm, when the first boats came into sight. They were pretty hungry, so Steve and Mary Kay threw chips and rice krispy squares to them down in the lock -- lucky for them there was only one lock this time. :)

All in all, it was a great paddle. There were a few sunburns and some sore derrieres but everyone was in good shape after their first day on the water.

7:09 pm - The kayaks are ushered into the locks -- no wait this time!

Tents were pitched and an awesome cold turkey dinner was served with potato and caesar salads. But the bugs were quick to follow so only a courageous few braved the West Nile threat.
